To verify the current setting 

cscript c:\windows\system32\scregedit.wsf /AU /v

To enable automatic updates 

cscript c:\windows\system32\scregedit.wsf /AU 4

To disable automatic updates 

cscript c:\windows\system32\scregedit.wsf /AU 1
